Montessori Educators of Alabama (MEA) is an inclusive group of Montessorians collaborating to support the growth of high quality Montessori education in Alabama and advocating for Montessori guides, Heads of Schools, and the families they serve.

MEA started with the idea that Alabama Montessori Teachers and School Leaders needed an organization to be able to connect with each other from all over the state.
Our Goals:
Provide an alliance for Montessorians in the state of Alabama.
Support a community of Guides and Heads of Schools through regional committees and offer statewide Montessori professional development opportunities.
Uphold the authenticity of the Montessori Philosophy and Methods.
Advocate the growth of Montessori education for all demographics in Alabama regardless of enrollment size, location or socioeconomic diversity.

American Montessori Society (AMS) Education Scholarships
Every year, the American Montessori Society awards teacher education scholarships to aspiring Montessori teachers in support of their professional growth.
Those eligible to apply for scholarships are individuals who have been accepted, are in the process of being accepted, or are already enrolled in an AMS-affiliated teacher education program at any of these credential levels: Infant & Toddler, Early Childhood, Elementary (I, I – II, II), and Secondary (I, I – II). These scholarships are not available for individuals enrolled in an AMS Administrator or MIE course.

Megan Johnson (they/them)
Co-Founder, Acting Co-Director, Acting Treasurer
Megan has been a teacher at Creative Montessori School since 2014. They received their Infant/ Toddler certification from the Center for Guided Montessori Studies in 2019 and are the head of the Toddler Department. They have a degree in Sociology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. They recently helped start an Anti-Biased / Anti-Racist Committee for their school.

Courtney Davis (she/her)
Co-Founder, Acting Co-Director
Courtney has been a guide at Creative Montessori School since 2005. She has a B.S. degree and received her AMS Early Childhood certification from Montessori Academy of Brentwood in 2016. Currently she is in the process of establishing a diverse by design Montessori school in Birmingham, Urban Community Montessori.

Lauren Williams (she/her)
Acting Communications Director
Lauren has been a teacher at Creative Montessori School since 2019. She is currently in training for Infant/Toddler certification through the Center for Guided Montessori Studies. Lauren attended CMS as a child and later went on to receive a Bachelors of Music along with a general business minor a the University of Alabama.
